About Nichole Campbell

Growing up outside the Twin Cities, Nichole Campbell graduated from Saint Cloud State University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary/K-8 Education (with a minor in mathematics).  She gained her Master's Degree in Educational Technology through Concordia - St. Paul.

Despite enthusiasm and best intentions, Nichole realized early in her teaching career that urban learners weren’t always connecting with her.  She immersed herself in research and literature, focusing on the work of Kristopher Childs, Zaretta Hammond, Gloria Ladsen-Billings and others, and quickly realized it wasn’t that her learners weren’t connecting with her, but rather she wasn’t connecting with them. Nichole began to better understand how she could create a curriculum that allowed windows and mirrors into many different cultures and lived experiences. Believing change was possible, Nichole embraced culturally relevant pedagogy and was determined to use themes of social justice.

Nichole has left the classroom and is now a math coach and educational consultant.  She partners with other like minded companies to write curriculum and manage projects. One of her lessons she co-wrote with a colleague is featured in a Corwin Publication titled Middle School Mathematics Lessons to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice. She also presents at local and national conferences, and engages educators in professional development focused on culturally relevant pedagogy and math tasks. She continues to seek out best practices, new trends, and remains open to all ideas.
